Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy was not fined by the NFL for his hit to quarterback Joe Flacco
’s left knee on Monday Night Football, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.The hit in the fourth quarter caved in Flacco’s knee after his leg was planted, but did not do any significant damage. Flacco returned to the game and is expected to play this weekend wearing a brace to protect the knee.
Officials did not flag Levy on the hit, but the Ravens thought he should have been penalized. The Ravens stressed that the play should have fallen under the “Brady Rule,” which protects quarterbacks against defenders diving at their legs.
The Ravens sent the play into the NFL to have it reviewed, but the league determined that Levy’s hit was clean.
While Levy got off without a fine, Ravens safety Matt Elam
was not as lucky. Elam was fined $7,875 for unnecessary roughness for hitting Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford as he was sliding, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.
